My Life In A Golf Shirt has seen a tidy little gain in subscribers recently, for which I’m grateful. For the newbies, I want to thank you and to give you an idea of what goes on in this infinitesimal (spelled that right the first time . . . impressive, huh?) space of the Interbooz.
What you WON’T find here are in-depth interviews with the major movers and shakers in golf. I’ve had a few brushes with some of those folks; by and large they are lovely people of whose exploits are best explored via other means.
I started writing this from the viewpoint of someone who has been playing golf for over 40 years (actually, it’s been longer than that, but there was about a hiatus between the ages of 15 and 30 when I thought I was going to become a professional musician, but that’s a story for another time) and has teed it up at over 300 golf courses.
My handicap has been as high as 24 and as low as 6 (right now it’s a shaky 12).
I’ve belonged to some fairly high-falutin’ country clubs. I’ve also played regularly at some pretty grimy tracks.
I’ve worked behind the counter at a sporty 9-hole course in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
I’ve (mostly) enjoyed the company of scores of folks on the golf course, including politicians, cannabis moguls, Hollywood choreographers, musicians, chefs, laborers, Army generals, professional golfers from both men’s and women’s tours, priests (who by way, cuss as much as the rest of us on the course), youngsters . . . well, you get the idea.
The common denominator in all of this is love for the game. Along the way, I’ve collected a lot of stories and (most importantly) made many friends who share the joys and frustrations of the game.
In the year and a half that I’ve been writing this blog, I’ve put out over 200 entries, posting 2, 3, or 4 times a week. This blog will always be free, simply because I sense there may come a day where I run out of things to say about golf.
Which brings me to the following - I’ll be taking some time off from this and will start posting again on or around September 16. In the meantime, I’ve attached a few links below to give you some idea of what I write about.
Thanks again for subscribing. Hit ‘em straight.

[My Life in a Golf Shirt is on hiatus until September 16th. In the meantime, we will play some of our greatest hits.]
Damn
I wrote this several years ago about one of the best guys I ever knew, on and off the golf course
Enjoy your time off, Pop. I love reading about yours (and others') life in golf. Before I started reading here, I knew next to nothing about the game. Now, I still know very little, so it must be your writing that keeps me coming back. Later, Gater.
